Museum Cares Project

September 10, 2022 @ 10:00 am - 12:00 pm

The Northeast Louisiana Delta African American Heritage Museum, in keeping with its mission statement, remains committed to educate and serve the fifteen parish communities it represents. We believe we can be a positive force to encourage literacy in the approaching school year in what we are calling a “Your Museum Cares Project”.

Purpose: We want the community we represent to seek the museum as a destination to enhance the lives of its children; however, our focus in this project is children’s literacy.

“Your Museum Cares Project”–Making a Difference

To Register and Participate in this Project

Participants must be school age children in grades 3rd through 5th grade.

Only two hundred registered children will be allowed to participate.

PARTICIPATING CHILDREN MUST REGISTER by calling the museum at 318-342-8889 TO BE ELIGIBLE FOR THE GIFT CERTIFICATE AND BOOKS.  Please go to the museum’s website https://africanmuseummonroe.com/  to familiarize yourself with the museum

The two hundred registered participants will receive a free book to add or begin their collection of books. In addition, the two hundred participants will receive a $10.00 gift certificate to purchase a second book from Books-A-Million in Monroe. Please note that after we reach our two hundred registered participants, registration will be closed.

Two activities are planned for the participants enjoyment.

Museum personnel will engage participants in a Art Scavenger Hunt that will help them learn about the museum’s art collection and the museum itself.

Pelican State Credit Union works together with local schools and organizations to provide students with free financial wellness. James Miles from Pelican State Credit Union will present a method for students who meet eligibility requirements to earn money for getting good grades.

NOTE: A light snack will be given to each participant at the conclusion of the project on September 10, 2022
